Could you be a Guardian and help safeguard our future?

The Mendelssohn on Mull Festival is free for the young artists who attend, so the players who are invited are those who will really benefit from the experience, rather than only those who can afford to come. It is also free for audiences, with the music accessible to everyone who wants to hear it.

Currently, our main source of funding is our community of Friends - regular attendees or well-wishers who want to safeguard the future of the festival and ensure that it can continue to operate to these principles.

In order to broaden our funding base and secure our future, we are looking for 20 people, ‘Festival Guardians’, who can commit £1,000 a year over 3 years. With Gift Aid this would be about £780, and it’s possible to set up monthly payments of £65. Is this something you could do?

Festival Guardians will be invited as special guests to concerts we are planning in interesting venues throughout the UK. But your main reward would be the knowledge that you are safeguarding the future of our unique festival.

We are delighted to announce and to thank our Festival Guardians:

Robert Chegwin
Mr & Mrs Jo Elliott
Marilyn Jeffcoat
Mike and Jane Mitchell
James Munro
Michael J Pretty
Ann Wilson
Ian and Mairi Wood

Fund Raising by Donations
We are here to help young professionals and their more established colleagues, make music together, but what we have also been doing over the last 22 years is to build an ever bigger and ever more discerning audience. Even those who find us by mistake realise what a joy it is to hear such music played so well and come back year after year, on purpose, to find out more, to explore the repertoire and to follow the careers of the musicians. It would be good to think that by growing our audience we are contributing to the future of this most exacting art form.

However,it will be ever more difficult to raise funds for the arts from established sources. We have never been dependent on government funding, but we have relied on a small number of Trusts, who are themselves finding life very difficult with capital values following the stock market, and income dramatically reduced. It is really important therefore that we have such a loyal group of Friends, who are willing to pay an annual subscription, and then still make extra donations, so that we can continue to keep the festival free to participants and to audiences. We also have a new category of donor, Guardians, who made the festival possible this year. Total funds raised from individuals in 2010 was nearly £20,000 or 50% of our Budget. For all this we THANK YOU!

To make it really easy for a larger number of people to make donations, however small or large, to the Mendelssohn on Mull Festival, I opened a free account with DONATE NOW (click here or on the logo on the right). This is run by an organisation called Charity Choice who for no charge take care of all the administration including reclaiming the Gift Aid element of your donations. I do hope readers and members will be motivated to use it. Again Thank You in advance.
